What Sort Of GeoTrencher Do I Need?
What are the differences between each GeoTrencher?
It’s easy to assume that the biggest difference in GeoTrenchers would be the front half with the digging chain. On the contrary, it’s the powerhead it’s attached to that makes all the difference.
Each GeoTrencher has different levels of power output, emissions, vibration suppression, and more. It’s easy to fall into the mindset that they all perform the same task, therefore they only vary in length. However, in reality, there are models that differ not only budget but also in professional or personal use. For example:
An All-Rounder GeoTrencher – Husqvarna K-Series
This is our all-rounder GeoTrencher which we recommend for all uses. It’s our generalist line of products that stacks up to any job you give it as well as being the best line of products for the every-man with trenching obligations to take care of.
The Husqvarna K770 & K970 models are some of our lightest an most compact machines with a very superior power-to-weight ratio, making them among the easiest to use out of all our GeoTrenchers.
Made With Durability and Longer Service Intervals In Mind
Equipped with a heavy-duty cutting arm made out of 8mm AR steel (AR is an acronym for Abrasion Resistant), these models are designed to withstand the toughest of trials.
To complement this, their Poly-V belt and DuraStarter™ were made to be maintenance-free. Meaning that the intervals in which you have to perform some maintenance on these products are longer than ever.
Unique Easy-To-Start Powerhead Components
What makes this product unique is its composition of different parts. It was made for an easy start, ensuring that it’s an easy-to-use product for anyone regardless of whether or not they’re using this for professional purposes or personal. The unique design of the carburettor, cylinder, and their digital ignition system works in tandem with the air purge and decompression value work to start on demand.
GeoTrenhers with Makita Powerheads – For Jobs That Take Time
Made with jobs like installing irrigation, dog fencing, lighting, root barrier, and strip shallow direct-bury fibre installations in mind, The Makita Powerhead is designed for improved fuel economy and high horsepower.
The engines range from 61-75cc’s of power. This means that this GeoTrencher has more power in it than a lot of mopeds. What’s more, is that they’re engineered to last up to/over 15% longer than the average GeoTrencher whilst having a no-load speed of up to 9350 RPM for the most demanding of applications.
Easier Start-Ups
The ignition coil with the start-support function actually stores electricity for easier start ups which is an added bonus next to the carburetor that has improved deco-valve and metering spring both of which have added to precise fuel regulation at start-up and reduced flooding.
Made For Easy Use For Longer Jobs
The Makita Powerheads have varying levels of comfort features, but universally across all of them, The Makita Powerheads were made with long days in mind, meaning they were built with a certain level of comfort at the forefront of their designs. For example:
- Makita EK 7651H has An automatic engine decompression valve is engineered into the cam gear to reduce pull-start force by 40%
- Sliding front engine mounts help absorb vibration by detaching when cutting pressure is applied
- Cushioned Operator Grips have 4 vibration-absorption rubber buffers that increase comfort throughout the job
The STIHL Powerheads – The Highest Power Output Available
These GeoTrenchers have the highest power-to-weight ratio.
Starting with our most powerful unit the Stihl TS 700 Powerhead. With a power output of 98.5cc, this model can dredge through the earth at a max power at an operating speed of 5.0 kW 9,300rpm. Even their smallest GeoTrencher in the Stihl range clocks in at an engine speed of 9000rpm weighing in at only 13kg. For context, that’s 5kg lighter than the TS700 and is only 300rpm less.
The Eco-Friendliness Of A High Power Engine
The GeoTrenchers in this line are equipped with the STIHL 2-MIX Engine. Built with an advanced stratified charge system, designed to boost power whilst reducing consumption immensely as a side effect of significantly lowering unburned hydrocarbons in the exhaust.
Made For Messy Situations
Here at GeoTrencher, we know that if you’re looking into the Stihl product range, you’re likely looking at a job that needs heavy-duty equipment. This is why the Stihl Range is built with longevity and durability as part of its design.
Featuring a long-life air filter system, the Stihl range has cyclone air routing that ensures 80% of dust particles are separated and transported out into the surrounding air. Meaning that even with the messiest days of trenching has kong cleaning intervals for the foam pre-filter.
In addition, the Anti-Vibration System the Stihl line uses features a host of buffer and spring elements which all work cohesively to prevent the transmission of engine vibrations to the operator’s arms. This means that even the harshest terrain won’t require too much manpower in worst of circumstances.
The GeoTrencher You Need…
Ultimately comes down to each specific project, and if you have a wide range of jobs to do, we’d recommend that you go with our Husqvarna K-Series. Alternatively, if you’re looking for a machine that you can use for a full day’s work without the full day’s strenuousness, the Makita line is for you. Finally, if you know the jobs you’re required to use a Geotrencher for is one that requires maximum power output, then don’t skip out on the Stihl line.
